November Vertigo

His head swims in circles,

he wonders if it’s from ‘the booster’

or some hangover state from trying some of Greer’s ideas,

he waits for more news to come

from Jerome, Loeb, Bassett, Elizondo, John Greenwald jr., Cameron,

settles on the retired Colonel (Alexander) and his attempts to connect everything from crytos to

ufos, a paranormal plane of consciousness

one that makes sense, in a way, is elusive to science and math

it moves him in a way that may break down some of his current precepts of reality,

it also may also not

so, back he goes, head swimming and all,

to tangible ‘nuts and bolts’

tries to breathe, go on with routine,

but the genie, once she is free,

won’t go back in the bottle.

Shadow Returns

Trying to move passed the feelings that resurface,

a poisonous red seed

a viper that hides in the briars

intent on a fatal attack

camouflaged,

but moves,

over dark thorns unharmed

part of the same evil

he knows that his path narrows ahead

and that is the perfect place for

the strike to occur

he slows imagines it in his mind visualizes

each movement, turn and coil

so, he stops and waits

it may take hours

or he may have to create his own way

through the high grass on the left.

Reaction Formation

Fingers are slammed into a door,

screams stay inside,

they do stress and damage to organs, nerves,

a contusion immediately forms

on three fingers

he watches through glassy eyes

as the digits swell, fingerprints stretch,

colors change to red, then slowly purple,

the pain burns through the entire hand

he runs cold water over it,

imagines streams, lakes, waterfalls

a strong ache emerges

his mind comes back to him

he looks at his hand, his fingers are dry, fine,

the slam was only a shock to his system

a vivid, waking dream

easier to experience a hard wood door wounding

than the sudden pain

that was actually done

in reality.

In the card(s): an unborn’s ultrasound surprise

White roses on a field of blue

each petal lined in gold,

inside the card a glossy print

an ultrasound so bold.

Sweet mystery of feathery light

that showers a sky so black,

come January ‘21

there is no turning back.

Your eyes will shine, hands, fingers, toes,

we’ll gaze, touch, hold them close,

your birth, one moment, is for good,

despite our mortal clothes.

Small wonder you will come to us

and prompt us more toward love

that sea within our hearts more vast

than we’ve been dreaming of.

The body breaks yet is the soul

of perpetuity,

just as the violin’s sweet notes

transcend the instant, flee.

So when you come to us, your breath

will bless the air we breathe

and we will sing again new songs

that you will us bequeath.

Suite for Sachi                       (born Jan. 7, 2021)

You’re here!

The whole sweet suite of you:

prelude and allemande,

courante and sarabande,

gavotte and gigue—

your lively dance has just begun.

For now, all’s quiet on the couch.

Asleep and swaddled to your chin

we see the half-moon of your face,

your minion mouth and nose,

the little mounds of cheeks and eyes

beneath the yellow, knitted cap

against blue velvet sofa back;

and curious Fauci standing by

on high alert to sniff the air

and wonder why and who you are.

Perhaps you’ll never know how much

you’ve touched us since that sunny day

when we first saw your meteor flash

across the ultrasound’s black sky.

But now you move us all the more,

swaddle us, in fact—a balm

fresh from another world,

a breathing beauty-bud

that breaks grace open in our hearts,

a cherished treasure in our hands.

So here you sweetly are,

a song cocooned,

notes never heard before

that in their time will soar and sing

and we will clap our hands and loudly sing

and dance this joyful, mortal minuet with you.

Birthday

I was a gift to mother years ago,

seventy-four, to be exact, and she

turned thirty-five the day that I was born.

We keep close track and number years because

we are the briefest segment, nano tick

within the cosmic clock, a cry, a whisper,

joy that is composite with our loss,

and both affirm we are the slightest voice,

the merest flicker in the womb of dark

and universal silence—but that’s enough.

It is enough to feel the soil beneath my feet,

to breathe the air, the cleansing warmth of sun

and rain, all elements of faith and hope

and love that gather momentarily

within these sacred cells and sinews born

a child on this specific day at that

appointed hour within this given room

to these embracing arms and tender hands.

O mythic tree that pried earth-heaven apart,

I tend your garden world with grateful heart.

Miraculous Words

In profound silence, I spread my arms, my hands, like wings.

I feel the ocean currents of space lifting me, carrying me.

I walk effortlessly upon the voice of the heavens,

my thoughts, a single thread of concentration.

There are brilliant words of color and splendor,

living words as small as atoms and as large as galaxies.

These words are pure Meaning, the Vortex of Life,

the Universe within the Universe,

the Substance of all reality. Everything has a Meaning,

from the smallest grain of dust to the Throne of the Most High.

To understand the Meaning is to truly understand.

Hope is nothing more than experience waiting to be.

We write the poetry of both our experiences and our hopes,

experience being the path we have already traveled,

and hope being the path we have yet to travel;

but they are both paths of equal reality,

words filled with Substance, Meaning.

To comprehend poetry is to Live.

Never be afraid to write awesome, miraculous words of hope.

Never hesitate to fly. Soon,

my words shall carry me across the skies

and to the stars. My words shall enable me

to walk upon the shores of distant worlds.

The Path of Immortality

We dream the dreams of immortality,

but we entertain the nightmares of insanity,

our journey to distant galaxies horrendously cut short by

our own stubborn avarice, our own drives to viciously exploit the weak,

our own lusts for lies, and our own obsessive impulses to steal, kill,

and destroy,

binding us to the lonely confines of our own planet Earth,

our own solar system,

like heavily weighted prison chains. We are at a crossroads

between Transcendence and extinction,

and we have much to overcome before we can Inherit

Supernatural Existence, Miraculous Empowerment, and Immortality.

We must always bring forth Peace, Brotherhood, Compassion, and Love

while there is breath in our nostrils,

for the Greatest of Truths Resides in these,

indeed, the Ability to Transcend the mundane and

Inherit the Perfect Pattern of Cosmic Wisdom

will likewise be found there. Are we willing to mortify

our own ten-thousand-year-old habits of malicious corruption

in order to move the mountains, walk the seas, travel the galaxies,

and live forever? The Path of Immortality

begins with one faithful step.

Simple Dreams

Numerous skeptics constantly say that human levitation is simply impossible,

that man was never meant to fly.

Any child can tell you that man was not meant to fly,

but rather,

to soar above the clouds of impossibility,

to transcend these physical boundaries of limitation,

indeed, to ascend into the realms of infinite capability.

When one's sleep is filled with dreams of flight without aircraft,

where the mind renders the body weightless and soars above the mountains,

such dreams are never in vain.

Oftentimes the simple dreams of innocent children

confound the complex knowledge of educated skeptics.

The physical mind cannot comprehend the myriad Rivers of countless Words

which are the very Substance of all the Universe and everything in it.

But the Spiritual Mind can.

Room 222A

Dingy institutional avocado brick

west wall of a square classroom,

fourteen rowed fluorescents look down

on sixteen teenagers in various states

of study, boredom, fear, love, sickness,

sharing, rhythm, preoccupation, fatigue,

laughter, bemusement, laziness, grooming,

composing, conversation, and percussion.

Tapping on a laminate desk equals

creation of a single future. One word

at a time, this arranged laboratory is

part of the great experiment, to see

if those sophisticated mammals will improve

the already perfect earth, or speed the need

for a cosmic rewrite.

Before We Died

the pictures came out
there was anger in the air
drivers sped a little faster
to get to their rectangular hideouts
hits to internet movies increased
but I think this has all caused me
to finally to see what porn really is

now when I get naked with someone
I wonder where are the hoods the wires
the dogs the digital cameras
to keep us from revealing
how ashamed we are to be just skin
in the kingdom made by something
other than man what was the creator

thinking is this why we're here
to hope to someday transcend
to something beyond this sphere
is it something to look forward to
something nonmaterial something
I cannot see something that won't
remind me of what beasts we are

will my spirit inside finally come out
party because of the release finally
coming and no fluid will be involved
and I will be happy to have moved
beyond body into something ethereal
incapable of exercising any control
over the creatures that remain chained

for a while to the damned globe of
learning what is really important
that religion and politics were all
just exercises in preparation for
the true existence the one that
follows this short test this brief hell
that teaches us words for thoughts

and what a shame it would be
if all locutions were here
to simply become dust or
possibly that is the intention
that this experiment does not
leave this planet maybe there is
a wisdom to this limited breathing
